OpenAI is providing access to its ChatGPT product to US federal agencies at a nominal cost of $1 a year as part of a push to get its AI chatbot more widely adopted.

The Trump administration will conclude a government-wide program started by Elon Musk requiring federal employees to summarize five workplace achievements from the prior week, according to the Office of Personnel Management.

The US government’s central purchasing arm is adding OpenAI, Alphabet Inc.’s Google and Anthropic to a list of approved artificial intelligence vendors, opening the door to widespread adoption of the technology across civilian federal agencies.

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting said that it will begin to wind down operations after President Donald Trump signed a package of spending cuts that ended its federal funding.

In May, the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, lost its architect and de facto leader, Elon Musk. But without Musk, who brandished a literal chainsaw as a symbol of the group’s aggressive cost-cutting program, the Trump administration is continuing to make cuts — and quietly insinuating DOGE into the fabric of government.
